Chapter Seven
The papers which Sally had to sign were only three in number and as they were ready for her signature the business was completed in less than five minutes. Grant then took Sally to the shops and it was arranged that she should take a taxi back to the hotel when she had done what she wanted to do.
âI havenât much shopping at all,â she said, not realising that she was telling him she had very little money for spending. He hesitated, a slight frown on his face.
âIf you do decide to marry me, youâll need a wedding dress and this is the place to buy one. Youâll have no choice in Clonville.â
Sally coloured up. She had lain awake half the night, thoughts flitting through her mind in alternate decision and uncertainty. What astounded her all the time was that she could even contemplate marrying without the full reciprocation of her love. It would be the most irrational thing she had ever done in her life. But was love like hers ever totally rational?
âI havenât made up my mind,â she sighed. âPlease donât mention it again.â
He shrugged and left her, but it was plain by his expression that he would have liked to have given her some money to buy a wedding dress and a trousseau.

She was so happy she managed to put Grantâs offer from her mind and give herself over to the appreciation of the richly stocked boutiques and fashion houses, the gigantic department stores, the shopping arcades with their flowers and trees and inviting coffee lounges. It was late afternoon by the time she returned to the hotel, and only then did reality catch up with her and she was again confronted with the problem set last night by the man she wanted to marry, but yet she was hesitant about making a decision, simply because the logical one kept being overshadowed by her heartâs desire.
She went to her room and revelled in the luxury of a foamy bath, lying in the water, relaxing and gradually coming to a decision.
She thought afterwards that she had known right from the first what her decision would be. Her love for Grant was so strong it would carry her through. She would have his children, and she might one day have his love. Yes, optimism rose high within her as she lay there, soaking her slender body in the warm soapy water. She would make Grant love her! Heâd not be able to help himself. His
